The Swiss lawyer Joseph Hornung attacked Western brutality in the colonies as well as its hypocrisy in supporting intervention of oppressed Christians in Turkey was while paying no such consideration to those Africans and Asians being persecuted by colonial rule.
In particular, Hornung riled against the use of the Orient by European powers for the commercial benefit of nationals at home. If colonialism was to be justified then it had to be in the interest of the colonized and drive towards a world federation Hornung argued. Hornung however, despite his appeals for humanitarian treatment of those colonized, did not believe that non-European communities were equal to European states.
