Petros Mavroidis

Petros C. Mavroidis is professor of European Union and World Trade Organization (WTO) Law at the University of Neuchâtel and at Columbia Law School, New York. He is also Chair for Global and Regional Economic Law at European University Institute, Florence. He was previously a member of the Legal Affairs Division at the WTO.  He is chief co-rapporteur at the American Law Institute (ALI) for the project “Principles of International Trade Law: The WTO.”

Mavroidis earned his law degree at the University of Thessaloniki and has an LL.M. from Berkeley. He originally focused his work on antitrust and public international law, with international trade encompassing both areas, and because the field was gaining popularity in the late 1980s, he decided to pursue his Ph.D. in the subject.  Since then, his work has been primarily on the WTO. Mavroidis, who worked in the WTO’s legal division in the 1990s, has written extensively on the organization and its predecessor, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).
