Professor Dr. Jean Nicolas Druey is a Professor Emeritus of civil and business law at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). He obtained his doctoral degree in 1966 at the University of Basel and was admitted to the bar of Basel in the same year. One year later, he obtained an LL.M. from Harvard Law School.


From 1968 to 1974, Professor Druey was a member of the legal department of the pharmaceutical firm Hoffmann-La Roche. From 1974 to 1980, he was first a member and then senior manager at the law department at the auditing firm, Allgemeine Treuhand in Zurich (ATAG), which later became the Swiss branch of Ernst & Young. In 1976, Professor Druey was admitted to the faculty of law at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) on a proposal by Professor Peter Jäggi. In 1980, he was given a Chair for civil and commercial law at the University of St. Gallen, from which he retired in 2000. He was a co-founder and continues to be a member of the board of the Research Center for Information Law at the University of St. Gallen.
Professor Druey served as a member, and later as chairman, of the Swiss Association of Jurists From 1991 to 2000. He has been a member of the editorial board of the Swiss Review of Business Law from 1981 to 1995 and was also chairman of the latter from 1982 to 1992. Druey is a member of the American Law Institute and of the steering committee of the “Forum Europeaum Konzernrecht”.
