Jean Nicolas Druey

Jean Nicolas Druey (born 1937) is an emeritus professor of civil and commercial law at the University of St. Gallen.

He received his doctoral degree in 1966 from the University of Basel and was admitted to the bar of Basel in the same year. In 1967 he obtained an LL.M. degree at Harvard Law School. From 1968 to 1974 Jean Nicolas Druey was a member of the legal department of the pharmaceutical firm Hoffmann-La Roche. From 1974 to 1980 he was a member before becoming the senior managing director of the law department of Allgemeine Treuhand (ATAG), an auditing firm in Zurich. ATAG later became the Swiss branch of Ernst & Young. In 1976 he was admitted to the Faculty of Law at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and in 1980 he was named Chair for Civil and Commercial Law at the University of St. Gallen.

Jean Nicolas Druey is a co-founder of the Research Center for Information Law at the University of St. Gallen, where he is still a member of the board. Between 1991 and 2000 he served as a member and chairman of the Swiss Association of Jurists. He was a member of the editorial board of the Swiss Review of Business Law from 1981 to 1995. Jean Nicolas Druey is also a member of the American Law Institute and the Forum Europaeum Konzernrecht.

Jean Nicolas Druey has published a large number of books, articles and book chapters. He was honoured with a commemorative volume at his 65th anniversary; the volume was edited by Rainer J. Schweizer, Herbert Burkert and Urs Gasser.
